Great wineries for a summer vacation are plentiful in Southern California. With hundreds of wineries in just Napa Valley and Temecula Valley Wine Country, for instance, you can have the most interesting and unusual experiences.
Napa Valley
Sterling Vineyard appears to be a white castle on the top of a mountain. The only way to and from is by riding a tram for ten or fifteen minutes, and the view makes that worthwhile. You also have an amazing photo experience once you get there. You might be able to view some of the wine being processed, there is a self-guided tour to learn about wine making, and you will also find a free small museum.
The Beaulieu Vineyard is one of the most popular and also offers a large selection of wines for every budget. These are simple wines that have great flavors, and you can try a variety of those wines.
Schramsberg Vineyards is one of the few Napa Valley wineries that specializes in sparkling wines, which are mostly a blend of white and red wine such as the Blanc de Noirs which is 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay. A private tour shows you how sparkling wine is made, and there is a tasting afterwards.
Spring Mountain Vineyard is beautiful as it nestles in the hills. Although their wine are somewhat more expensive than others, they have an amazing variety of red wines produced in the elevation differences of their vast amount of land.
Temecula Valley Wine Country
Southern California’s only female owned and managed vineyard is Keyways Winery, where the gorgeously recently renovated property and estate bring back the feeling of the old California wineries. The specialties are white, red, and dessert wines.
The Briar Rose Winery‘s main building was created by an architect who formerly worked at Disney and is modeled similar to Snow White’s cottage. This reservation-only boutique is unusual and offers a “frisky” sparkler named the Talking Frog among its wines.
Old Town Temecula is a mini wine district with restaurants, six testing rooms, wine bars, and more surprises as you stroll through this quaint town. You can buy a Wine & Dine Card so that you can enjoy discounts on the wine tastings and food.
