Colorado Wineries Offer Great Views and Great Wine

Colorado is an emerging force in the world of wineries, the warm days and crisp nights of a Colorado summer create an ideal grape crop. Many of the Colorado winery locations are in or near the Rocky Mountains, making this an ideal location to combine a trip to wineries with magnificent mountain views and activities.

Wineries are also located in the Front Range area, near the capitol of Colorado, Denver. Being close to the city means it is possible to sample the best of what the mountains and an urban area have to offer.

Palisade, Colorado is home to approximately sixty percent of where the state’s grapes are grown in addition to many wineries. Two of the standout wineries to see are Colorado Cellars and Grande River Vineyards. Colorado Cellars has been in operation since 1978. They have been honored with hundreds of awards and also offer delicious foods and desserts that pair well with wine. Grande River Vineyards offers a fine selection of wines, beautiful grounds, and lovely tasting room. Tours can be arranged with either winery year round.

Many of the Front Range wineries buy their grapes from the Western Slope. Highway 34, between Estes Park and Loveland, is called the Northern Winery Region. Visitors to these wineries often combine the winery tours with visits to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Some of the recommended wineries to visit are: Snowy Peaks Winery and Valley of the Wind Winery. Snowy Peaks Winery in Estes Park is relatively new to the wine-making scene but they won awards in their first year for Rieslings. Loveland boasts Valley of the Wind Winery which features truffles and hand-made chocolate in their tasting room.

Boulder, Colorado is another stand out area for wineries on the Front Range. Augustina’s Winery features wines that are meant to combine with mountain adventures like backpacking and hiking and pair well with rustic food. Redstone Meadery is one of the most unique wineries in Boulder. They create honey wine, also known as mead. Both wineries offer free tours and tastings. Boulder also features a notable shopping area of local shops, the Pearl Street Mall, which is a good complement to any wine tasting adventure.
