Sedona is the wine country of Northern Arizona, but in reality, most of the wineries are located in many little towns near by. In Northern Arizona, you have the high altitude, combined with volcanic soil and mild year around weather, which produces beautiful grapes, that can rival any of the Napa Valley wines in their full body flavors! Daily tasting times vary by winery; therefore, it is best to call ahead. Some wineries charge for a chance to sample their wines, setting out cheese and crackers or fruit to go along with their wines, while others offer free sampling.
There are several vineyards in the Oak Creek area, which is within 15 minutes of Sedona. Oak Creek Vineyards and Winery produces both red and white wines. Sycamore Canyon Winery is also on the banks of Oak Creek just south of Sedona along with Page Springs Cellars, a family owned winery and vineyard, which features both red and white wines.
Head over to Cornville to Javalina Leap Vineyards and Winery. They are on the greenbelt of Oak Creek. Nearby is Echo Canyon Vineyard and Winery, in Jerome. They use, organic and biodynamic farming methods and the wines are made in open-top fermenters.
Alcantra Vineyards is on the Verde River in Cottonwood. They have a wide selection, creating both red and white wines. Freitas Vineyard is also in Cottonwood . However, you need to go to Pillsbury Wine Co, a tasting room in Old Town, in Cottonwood, to sample their wines since they do not presently have a tasting room at the vineyards itself. This is a small winery and they specialize in making handcrafted estate wines. They make not only the delicate white wines but also the dark robust ones as well. For a unique experience, head over to San Dominique, in Camp Verde. It is not only a winery and vineyard, but they also growing about 65 varieties of Garlic!
There are additional wineries in the Prescott area about an hour’s drive from Sedona. As you can see the wine industry is flourishing in Arizona.
